WAYNE ROONEY REACTS TO TWITTER ABUSE FROM LIVERPOOL FAN

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney Told a Twitter follower "I'll put u asleep within 10 seconds" after being provoked on the social networking site.

Reaction: Wayne Rooney sent a series of tweets to a follower who abused him

Rooney, who is new to Twitter but already has more than half a million followers, was abused by the Twitter account sam_oldham_LFC on Tuesday night, who called the England striker a "fat whore" and threatened to "smash ya head in with a pitchin wedge."
Rooney responded by inviting the Liverpool fan to Manchester United's training ground, writing: "you know where I train every day kid come and do it good luck."
After another reply from the fan, Rooney replied: "cool bring ur sandwedge girl"

Rooney then tweeted "I'll put u asleep within 10 seconds u little girl. Don't say stuff and not follow up on it. I'll be waiting".
Unfortunately, the striker made the common error of addressing that tweet to himself, but then expanded on his message and addressed it to intended recipient, saying: "I will put u asleep within 10 seconds hope u turn up if u don't gonna tell everyone ur scared u little nit. I'll be waiting."
Later, Rooney attempted to play down the situation, posting the message: "Ha ha bit of banter and people go nuts chill all people." The account sam_oldham_LFC has now been deleted. Rooney's spokesman said: "As is made clear in the tweets, this whole exchange is banter. There is no suggestion, nor is there any intention of a suggestion, of a real fight."
Twitter has been hailed as a positive innovation which allows fans to interact directly with players, but abusive messages appear to be on the increase.

CYBER BULLYING

Cyber bullying refers to “bullying through information and communication technologies”-Webster n.d

Whilst cyber bullying is emotional and psychological effects are devastating for the victim and can often lead to suicide and depression. Cyber bulling in terms of social networks is a huge issue as more than 50% of American teenagers aged from 12 to 17 use social networking sites. Online bullying is often seen as the easy way out. Social Networking sites such as Twitter act as a platform where bullies can say things they might not usually say to someone in person. Besides that, the words or rumours that are shared are just hurtful.  Bullies often feel more confident because they can contact their victims anytime and anywhere.

For example in 2009, a 14 year old girl committed suicide because of cyber bulling. The daughter’s mother spoke out in an ABC news report and explained that “Friday night she was on the internet and told me about some message that had come through, and she wanted to die because of the message. I laid in bed with her and we discussed it for about an hour and she left me fairly happy. I can guarantee you if she didn’t go on the internet Friday night she’d be alive today.” It is clear state that social networking sites aid in the prominence of cyber bulling which is one of the negative impacts that social networking sites has on society today.

DEGRADE OUR PERFORMANCE

WORK

Recently, a research revealed that more than 72% employees in every company spend about 1 to 1.5 hours on social networking sites such as Twitter, on matters that had no relation to their jobs. Even though they have lots of work to do at their workplace, they still locate some of their time to "log in" into Twitter. They feel like this site has been very crucial to their life since they have become addictive to it. They will not focus on their work because they always think about their status is getting "retweet" by their friends. Thus, this will give an impact in their work performance as lots of work are not completed during office hours. This is a reality that happens nowadays.

SCHOOL

It has been proved that students who use Twitter excessively had a low attention span thus score low grades. In the old days, students were assigned homework and had to go home and put forth some effort to complete their assignments. But because of today's technology of communication such as Twitter, students tend to give up too soon by just asking their online members. They will just simply tweet something about what they don't know and their friends may help them. After all, they will end up talking and chatting with their friends and do no revision. This completely shows that they didn't take seriously about their studies. This may lead them to failure in examination and result in their performance.

TWITTER WILL AFFECT OUR HEALTH CONDITION

Social network is responsible in turning traditional communication into an interactive one. However, it is entirely different because tools like social networking sites can be very addictive. People who use social networking sites such as Twitter for their daily communication are hooked to a point that they neglect health responsibilities, especially their diet. The addictive nature of social network leads to eating disorders, sleep disorders, and other pertinent health issues. Additionally, constant exposure to the internet because of social networking addiction prevents a child or teen from engaging in physical activities and socialization. They become so dependent on it that they start to think making contact with other people outside the social network is not necessary.
